What are the functions of IGBT module?

IGBT power module is driven by IC, various drive protection circuits, high-performance IGBT chip and new packaging technology. It has developed from composite power module PIM to intelligent power module IPM, power electronics building block PEBB and power module IPEM. PIM is developing in the direction of high voltage and high current. The product grade is 1200-1800A / 1800-3300V. In addition to IPM used for frequency conversion speed regulation, IPM of 600A/2000V has been used for VVVF inverter of electric locomotive. Planar low inductance package technology is PEBB using high current IGBT module as active device for missile launcher on ship. IPEM adopts co-firing ceramic multi-chip module technology to assemble PEBB, which greatly reduces the inductance of circuit wiring and improves the efficiency of the system. Intellectualization and modularization have become the hot spot of IGBT development.

When installing or replacing an IGBT module, pay attention to the state and tightness of the contact surface between the IGBT module and the heat sink. To reduce the thermal resistance, apply thermal grease between the heat sink and the IGBT module. Normally, the cooling fan is mounted at the bottom of the radiator. When the cooling fan is damaged and the heat sink is poor, the IGBT module heats up and becomes faulty. Therefore, the cooling fan should be checked regularly. Normally, the temperature sensor is mounted on a radiator near the IGBT module. When the temperature is too high, it will sound an alarm or stop the IGBT module.

At present, the IGBT with high current and high voltage has been modularized, and the drive circuit is composed of discrete components. Now, the integrated IGBT special drive circuit with better performance, higher reliability and lighter weight has been manufactured.
