AMD MI300X GPU test results exposed, far surpassing Nvidia H100

release time:2024-06-28Author source:SlkorBrowse:5031

Recently, media outlets conducted detailed tests on the AMD Instinct MI300X GPU, revealing superior performance in areas such as compute, storage, and caching, far surpassing NVIDIA's H100.

The MI300X is an AI accelerator based on CDNA 3 architecture, utilizing hybrid 5nm and 6nm process technology. It boasts an astonishing 15.3 billion transistors, a significant increase compared to its predecessor, the MI250X.

In terms of storage, the MI300X features a 50% increase in HBM3 capacity over the previous generation, with enhanced memory capacity and bandwidth. Most notably, the MI300X offers 2.4 times the memory capacity and 1.6 times the memory bandwidth of the H100, which significantly impacts performance.

Compared to the NVIDIA H100, the MI300X demonstrates substantial performance advantages. In 1v1 benchmark tests, the MI300X outperforms the H100 by as much as 20%. In server-level 8v8 comparisons, the MI300X leads the H100 by up to 60% in certain benchmarks.

In addition to its powerful performance, the MI300X is equipped with abundant cache and memory bandwidth capabilities. Its L1 cache bandwidth is 1.6 times that of the H100, the L2 cache bandwidth is 3.49 times, and the final level cache (infinite cache) bandwidth reaches 3.12 times that of the H100. This advantage allows the MI300X to retrieve information faster during data processing, further enhancing its performance.

Furthermore, the local HBM3 memory and VRAM bandwidth of the AMD GPU are 2.72 times and 2.66 times that of the H100 PCIe, respectively, further bolstering the overall performance of the MI300X. However, it is worth noting that the MI300X exhibits slightly higher memory latency compared to the H100. Nevertheless, this does not diminish the MI300X's overall performance advantage.

Tests conducted by Chips and Cheese on instruction throughput show that the MI300X excels across different types of computational instructions. At times, its throughput can be up to 5 times faster than the H100, with a minimum improvement of 40%. This further demonstrates the MI300X's robust performance.

The AMD MI300X GPU excels in areas such as storage, cache, memory, and instruction throughput, far surpassing NVIDIA's H100. This undoubtedly promises users a more powerful and efficient computing experience. As artificial intelligence and big data technologies continue to evolve, the outstanding performance of the MI300X will unlock more possibilities in related fields. We look forward to AMD potentially disrupting NVIDIA's dominant position in AI computing hardware.
