Sony releases ISX038 image sensor for vehicle-mounted cameras: Can output RAW and YUV images simultaneously

release time:2024-10-18Author source:SlkorBrowse:588

On October 6, news came that Sony released the ISX038 image sensor, which is used for vehicle-mounted cameras.

According to official introduction, the ISX038 image sensor is equipped with Sony's self-developed ISP (image signal processor). It can independently process and output RAW images required for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems (AD) for detecting and recognizing the external environment of the vehicle, as well as YUV images for use in on-board devices such as driving recorders and AR cameras.

In terms of image functionality, the ISX038 also performs outstandingly. The sensor can enable both HDR and LED flicker suppression functions to ensure accurate capture and identification of targets in various complex environments. Especially in environments with large differences in brightness and darkness such as tunnel entrances and exits, the HDR function can significantly improve the detection and recognition ability of vehicles.

For the wide application of LED devices in current transportation facilities, the LED flicker suppression function of the ISX038 is particularly important. During HDR shooting, this sensor can effectively suppress the flicker of LEDs and ensure the stability and clarity of the shooting picture.

In addition, the ISX038 image sensor also adopts a self-developed pixel structure and exposure method, further improving the saturation illumination range. When using HDR shooting and LED flicker suppression functions simultaneously, the sensor can achieve a wide dynamic range of up to 106dB (under dynamic range priority settings, it can even reach 130dB). This design not only improves shooting quality but also helps reduce motion artifacts generated when shooting moving objects.

It is worth mentioning that the ISX038 image sensor is compatible with Sony's existing products currently used by many automakers, so there is no need to worry about compatibility issues. At the same time, this sensor will obtain "Level 2" certification of the "AEC-Q100" reliability test standard for automotive applications before mass production, and adopt a development process that complies with the "ISO 26262" functional safety standard for road vehicles to ensure that it meets the requirements of the automotive safety level "ASIL-B(D)", providing automakers with a more safe and reliable solution.
