Zhang Junjun's Journey in the Semiconductor Industry as Sales Director at SLKOR

Time flies and days pass by swiftly. In 2024, it marks the ninth year since SLKOR began its journey. From its humble beginnings, SLKOR has grown to become a leading benchmark in the semiconductor industry, known for its competitiveness. The SLKOR brand has shined brightly in the electronic information industry and has been widely welcomed and adopted by clients around the world. Each step SLKOR has taken has been firm and steady. Behind this success are countless attempts and breakthroughs by SLKOR's team. In this interview, we meet Zhang Junjun, the Sales Director of the second department, who is one of the key contributors to this journey.

In 2022, through a friend's introduction, Zhang Junjun joined SLKOR Micro Semicon Co., Ltd., marking a new chapter in his career. Transitioning from years of experience in real estate sales to the semiconductor industry, this decision stemmed from his vision for the future development of the semiconductor field. When Zhang first arrived at SLKOR as a new semiconductor sales representative, he was faced with unfamiliar product knowledge and industry rules. He dedicated himself to learning, noting that the company provides specialized training for new salespeople, covering how to read product specifications, understand basic parameters, current, voltage, and more. However, Zhang knew that training alone was not enough. He seized every opportunity to deepen his understanding of the products. By starting with the company's best-selling products, memorizing their features, and accumulating practical experience through each interaction with customers, he truly embodied the principle of "learning on the job and growing through learning." At the same time, he made sure to seek advice from experienced colleagues, drawing from their expertise to continuously enhance his professional skills.

As time went by, Zhang Junjun gradually began to stand out at SLKOR. "After about six months in the semiconductor industry, I've seen a significant improvement in my personal abilities," Zhang Junjun said. From initially unfamiliar visits to later participating in forums, he consistently approached each attempt with a calm mindset. It was this perseverance and effort that ultimately not only earned him the trust and respect of many clients but also led to his promotion to Sales Director of the Second Department after a year.

After his promotion to Director, Zhang Junjun took on additional responsibilities, and his approach to work changed. "Before, I just needed to focus on doing my own job well; now, I have to manage my team members," Zhang Junjun explained. As a mentor to the new employees in his team, Zhang generously shared his knowledge, providing detailed guidance on communication skills, script design, professional attitude, and etiquette standards. He encouraged newcomers to start with smaller clients, gradually build their confidence, and eventually handle tasks independently. As the time for their probationary evaluations approached, he instilled a sense of urgency in them, saying, "The probation evaluation is coming up in three months. If you don't create a sense of urgency, the three months will pass in the blink of an eye, and you might end up being eliminated.

Under Zhang Junjun's leadership, the Second Sales Department became a dynamic and cohesive small team. When facing complex challenges at work, team members demonstrated exceptional collaborative spirit. Whenever someone successfully resolved an issue, they would share their experience in the team chat and frequently communicate privately. This knowledge sharing not only accelerated the integration of new employees but also fostered a positive and proactive atmosphere within the team. Reflecting on his early days at SLKOR, Zhang Junjun recalled how he quickly adapted to the company’s environment. At SLKOR, he experienced a high level of trust and respect from the company, which reduced the constraints of cumbersome regulations and allowed his personal strengths to shine. He considered this to be a significant differentiator between SLKOR and other companies.

However, Zhang Junjun’s career was not always smooth sailing. When facing periods of stagnation and off-seasons, he chose to return to the basics and focus on repetitive tasks, seeking new opportunities from existing clients. He believed that even the most fundamental and seemingly repetitive work contains endless possibilities. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, patience, and proactive efforts. Even when faced with a 99% chance of failure, he stressed seizing that 1% chance of success, as it is often the key to achieving success.

Regarding his personal image and professional attitude, Zhang Junjun humorously mentioned that after more than a decade in sales, he has grown accustomed to the style of wearing dress shirts and slacks. This is not only a sign of respect and courtesy towards clients but also a reflection of his own professional standards. While many view sales as a tough, exhausting, and underappreciated job, Zhang Junjun sees it differently. He said, "In the past, when I trained employees, I often told them that even if you don’t make money in sales, you gain experience. Even if you don’t gain experience, you grow and become stronger inside. This is a valuable asset in life." Over his extensive career, Zhang Junjun has developed a resilient mindset, which not only helps him navigate the workplace with ease but also allows him to face life's setbacks and challenges with composure.

Although Zhang Junjun's story may lack the dramatic highs and dazzling achievements of some entrepreneurs or the repeated titles of sales champion, his steadfast dedication and deep commitment to his profession reflect a spirit of perseverance and continuous improvement. His journey is emblematic of many who strive and work hard in Shenzhen, China, contributing their own wisdom and effort to write new stories in the city.
