Can the number of years of durability represent the lifespan of a relay?

release time:2025-03-07Author source:SlkorBrowse:2558

The duration before failure or the lifespan of a relay varies depending on factors such as load, switching frequency, and operating environment, making it impossible to define a specific number of years for its durability.

Additional key points include:

● The lifespan of a relay consists of both the contact lifespan and the coil lifespan.

The contact lifespan (durability in years) must be determined based on the customer's load conditions and derived from the performance values of both mechanical and electrical durability.

The coil, typically made of polyurethane copper wire, has a lifespan of approximately 40,000 hours.

Mechanical durability refers to the number of times a relay can open and close its contacts under no-load conditions, while also considering mechanical failures and characteristics.

Electrical durability refers to the number of times a relay can open and close its contacts under rated load conditions (125 VAC, 0.3 A / 30 VDC, 1 A).

Durability curve: When switching loads at voltages and currents different from the rated load, the electrical durability can be determined by referring to the "durability curve." Learn more about how to interpret the durability curve.

Exceeding the relay's maximum capacity may significantly shorten its lifespan. Please select the appropriate product model based on the connected load capacity.

The relay on the printed circuit board has been soldered, making it difficult to replace later. It is recommended to choose a relay based on the provided durability data.

The lifespan of a relay is influenced by the load, switching frequency, and operating environment, and cannot be measured by a fixed number of years. Its lifespan is divided into contact life and coil life. Taking the Omron G6K relay as an example, mechanical durability and electrical durability refer to the number of switchings under no-load and rated load conditions, respectively. The durability curve helps determine durability under different load conditions. When selecting a relay, the load capacity must be considered to avoid shortening its lifespan. Since relays soldered on the circuit board are difficult to replace, the selection should be based on durability data.
